::Bio::
Tobey was born on June 27, 1975 to Wendy and Vincent Maguire, who seperated within two years of Tobey's birth. Tobey bounced between homes for a bit,
then finally settled in CA with his mother.
He was to follow in the footsteps of his father, wanting to take to a cooking class, but rumor has it, his mother
paid him $100 to take an acting class instead. He did.. and soon landed small roles on TV, playing a variety of roles. His
big break came when he starred in 1997's "Ice Storm", directed by Ang Lee (they would later team up to do the movie "Ride with the Devil"), where
he played Paul Hood. Next came 1998's "Pleasantville", directed by Gary Ross and co-staring Reese Witherspoon. As much as I love
Ice Storm, to me, Pleasantviile was Tobey's breakthrough performace, running the gammet of emotions, he should much promise. In 1999, he stared in
"Ride with the Devil" and the Oscar winning "Cider House Rules", playing orphan Homer Wells with such intreguity and depth for such a young actor.
To this day, CHR is one of my favorite all time movies. In 2000, Tobey found himself playing James Leer in Curtis Hanson's "Wonder Boys", a dark movie played
perfectly by Tobey next to Michael Douglas. Next came the biggest of all.. Tobey's determination to play the dual role of Peter Parker/Spider Man in Sam
Rami's "Spider Man". He had to get in physical shape, gaining about 30 pound of muscle and working out upwards of 4 hours 6 days a week, not an easy accomplishment
when you are a strict vegatarian.
Not only did he prove he could be a super hero, he did it with the grace that Tobey had applied to all his roles. Depth was never an issue, and
he brought comic hero Peter to a new level, exceeding everyone's expectations and breaking box office records, earning a record $114 million it's
opening weekend. "Spider Man" has since become the 5th top grossing movie in history. Tobey lost weight, dyed his hair red and and teamed up once again with Gary Ross to play the part of
real life hero and jockey Red Pollard in the movie adaptaion of Seabiscuit in 2003. This movie was spectacular on every level, and being a horse lover myself,
is my favorite movie of all time. As soon as he got off Biscuit, Tobey bulked up again for his reprisal of Peter in "Spider Man 2", which
premiered June 2004. This too, could break all records.
